Mountain Climbs

From August 2006 I will be retiring from guiding climbs of Kilimanjaro (having completed my 50th ascent in that month). This is excellent news for all the prospective clients out there who will no longer have to endure my increasingly embroidered and slightly deranged anecdotes! Thankfully I will be outfitting climbs using one of the three excellent Tanzanian mountain leaders profiled below. I have worked with all of them over the last ten years and in I have great trust in their ability to lead climbs of the highest quality, safety and value. They all speak excellent English, are trained in wilderness first aid and know the mountain back to front, and more importantly, up and down!

Kinyonga Victor Kinyonga

Kinyonga (KiSwahili for Chameleon) is a guide of singular quality. He has been guiding Kili climbs since the early 90's and combines a quiet manner with a quick sense of humour and a broad range of experience of guiding groups on Kilimanjaro.

Justin Justin Julius

If Justin was not a top guide on Kilimanjaro, he would be an NBA basketball player. At over six feet tall he is a gentle giant who brings an easy manner and a professional approach to his guiding. It sounds cliched to say it, but you could say that reliability is his middle name and that is why Justin has successfully lead so many guests to the summit.

Raymond Raymond Shayo

Raymond has the widest smile in Northern Tanzania. He has guided and goaded a huge range of people up Kilimanjaro and is always there to check on his clients' health and progress. Many clients have enjoyed Ray's laid back yet attentive style of guiding and I am always happy for him to accompany my clients on the mountain.
